The Weeknd on Living Life “Sober Lite” for Three Years

The Weeknd Snl GIF by Saturday Night Live

“I like sober lite,” The Weeknd declared in an interview with GQ Magazine. He defines being “sober lite” as abstaining from heavy substances, smoking weed and drinking on occasion. He added that, “I’m not a heavy drinker, [definitely not] as much as I used to be. The romance of drinking isn’t there.”

As for substances, the Grammy winner says he’s remaining abstinent for three years this August because “Drugs were a crutch. It was me thinking that I needed it. And not doing the work to figure out how not to need it. And I’ve spent the last few years realizing that and thanking God that I don’t need it. Because for a lot of people, it’s hard to shake it. But I knew I didn’t want it.”
