Walk Your Talk Fashion Editor Kate Vitela Walks Her Talk At The Marikit Show In Seattle

The word Marikit is a Tagalog term demonstrating superlatives such as gorgeous, splendid, beautiful or magnificent. So, it goes without saying the Seattle Marikit fashion show was all of those things. After weeks of organization by the production team it was held on June 25th, 2022 at the Muckleshoot Casino events center in Auburn, WA. A shockingly gorgeous and expansive venue with all the bells and whistles necessary to put on a good show. The main feature was designer Edwin Uy @edwinfuy who is worldrenowned for men’s and women’s formal wear.

The show began with an impressive cast upwards of thirty to forty models wearing a white ensemble of their own choosing. To follow was a stream of wardrobe changes from indigenous Filipino costumes to streetwear, resort wear, ending in formalwear. Having walked in this show as a model, I did not witness it from the audience perspective, however the vibe was palpable. It was an impressive two and a half hours of fashion and talent. Uy and his team also joined with Macys to feature some of their 2022 collection as well. Macys brands graced the runway from casual to formal in the middle of the show.

Starting at 4:30pm and ending around 8pm it was an eventful Saturday night. VIP audience members were seated for dinner prior to the show. Hours of choreography practice and fittings led to an entertaining night of fashion. Impressively the production team went on replicate the fashion display in Portland on July 8th, Uy’s gorgeous gowns were on the catwalk once again. This ambitious designer is making his mark on the fashion scene as the upcoming destination for his next Marikit show will be in Hawaii.

Uy has designed multiple gowns that have been featured in international beauty pageants across the globe. These pieces are intricate in detail and most decadent. Many of them featuring gauze capes and extensive beadwork as Uy is also known for detail and accessories. Uy’s gowns would be well suited for a formal dinner cruise or evening at the opera. They are classy with a hint of scandal as most of the gowns were cut high upwards towards the waist revealing most of the leg. Pair these with some mega watt 5’’ heels and you are off to a gala as the most exquisite “Marikit” goddess in the room.
