Tuesday Tunes Song of the Week: Lucky Star

Artist: Madonna

It’s St. Patrick’s Day Week and of course, we are feeling Lucky! Long Term Recovery is not about luck but I sure do feel lucky that I am given the gift of recovery.St. Patrick’s Day 2006 was the beginning to the end of my active addiction. It is also the day of my people, LOL, so I went hard and felt compelled to because I’m Irish. I’m not going to get into the insanity of it because you can assume it involved all of the things that happen on that day, also picture it in New Orleans so the insanity factor was 15/10. FUN FACT: In my Irish Family, I am the only alcoholic, honestly. What I think about now on St. Patrick’s Day is my Grandfather. He was an Irishman through and through, and as any good Irishman does, he passed away on St. Patrick’s Day. I feel lucky that I was in recovery when he passed. I was able to show up for my family and be a part of celebrating him.He was a tough but gentle soul and taught me (through my dad) about hard work. I have used that work ethic that is instilled in me to see yet another St. Patrick’s Day in recovery. My recovery is hard work mixed with a little bit of luck o’ the Irish.

I will leave you with an Irish blessing: May your blessings outnumber The Shamrocks that grow And may trouble avoid you Wherever you go.

PLAY IT AGAIN! Music can instantly transport you to another state of mind and alter your mood in a heartbeat. So, of course, we’re curating the greatest recovery tunes for our The Ultimate Sober Playlist.  This section features select songs that represent some part of our journey and serve as sobriety anthems in reminding us to stay the course. These are the ones that have us saying “Play It Again” and always end up on repeat. No decade or genre is off-limits. Happy listening!

What’s your sobriety theme song?  If there is a song you think should be on our playlist, we want to hear about it.  Send your requests to [email protected]
