The Daily Llama Word of the Day for October 19th Through October 23rd, Short Meditations For Your Complete Wool-Being

The Daily Llama brings you the word of the day, short meditations for your complete wool-being (#seewhatwedidthere?) for Monday, October 19th through Friday, October 23rd.

MONDAY, October 19th

WORD OF THE DAY: DARE

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

MEDITATE ON THIS:

There is a saying in the rooms, “If you want what you’ve never had, you’ve got to do what you’ve never done.” We cannot grow and also stay the same. When we seek to change our lives, we do not always know where change will lead us. But we’ve come to realize that if we remain the same it will cost us way more than if we move forward into the unknown. Instead of asking ourselves what we will possibly lose if we dare to move forward, let’s ask ourselves what we will risk losing if we do not dare to change.

TUESDAY, October 20th

WORD OF THE DAY: DAZZLE

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

MEDITATE ON THIS:

Most of the time our baseline is not set on dazzle mode. Many of us wake up and move through the day with a neutral feeling. Still many more of us struggle through sadness, loneliness and anxiety, and cannot recall the last time we felt neutral, let alone ecstatic. But imagine for a minute that you are in a position to dazzle and glow in this world: what do you see yourself doing? Dare to imagine that by next year at this time, this vision of yourself will be true. What would the first step be to move you closer to that reality? All dazzle begins with a single spark.

WEDNESDAY, October 21st

WORD OF THE DAY: DEVELOP

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

MEDITATE ON THIS:

Ask any fitness expert about what it takes to grow muscle, and they will tell you that you need to break down the muscle through weight-lifting exercise, feed the muscle the right nutrients and give the muscles rest to recover. The same formula works for our spiritual growth: we need to experience challenges, feed our spirits the right spiritual food, and take time for rest. And just like physical exercise, spiritual growth is not a one and done deal. Like all wellness, it is a journey not a quick fix.  What does your spirit need today: to be challenged, to be fed, or to rest?

THURSDAY, October 22nd

WORD OF THE DAY: DEPENDABLE

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

MEDITATE ON THIS:

Dependability is a character trait we develop over time by keeping to our word. In recovery, we learn to say what we mean and mean what we say without being mean, and we are slow to make promises because we strive to keep the promises we make. The biggest foe of dependability is impulsivity. In early recovery, it is hard not to be impulsive because our brains are detoxing and have not been use to coping well with delay. It is easier to get irritable, say a harsh word, and then call up a favorite defense mechanism to cover our feelings of guilt. But if we can master the art of slowing down, being patient, and restraining our tongue, we will gradually experience the pleasure that comes from being a dependable person. Where do I need to rein in my impulsivity and practice restraint?

FRIDAY, October 23rd

WORD OF THE DAY: TRANSFORM

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

MEDITATE ON THIS:

One of the most important things we can do for the world is learn to love ourselves and be kind to ourselves. For some, this seems very difficult indeed. For others, they may feel inclined to claim they do love themselves, but start to buckle under inspection. With all difficult long-term projects, it’s best to start with the smallest or easiest task first. As we develop our skills and our confidence, we can move toward the parts of ourselves that are harder to love. What part of myself is difficult for me to love? What would it be like to look at this part of myself through the lens of love?
