The Daily Llama brings you short, one-word meditations and a corresponding quote for your complete wool-being (#seewhatwedidthere?) for Monday, May 17th – Friday, May 21st, 2021.

MONDAY, MAY 17TH

THE DAILY LLAMA WORD OF THE DAY: COURTESY

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

MEDITATE ON THIS:

If the old proverb is true that we reap what we sow, let us sow kindness. Every interaction we have with someone else is an opportunity to be kind. It is easier to be kind to someone who has also been kind to us. The real challenge is practicing kindness toward someone who has not been kind toward us. Being courteous does not mean we remain in situations that are unsafe, harmful, or dangerous to us. But we can set a boundary while at the same time honoring the humanity of the other person.

TUESDAY, MAY 18TH

THE DAILY LLAMA WORD OF THE DAILY: HUMANITY

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

MEDITATE ON THIS:

In spite of all the differences that exist, we humans have more in common than we have differences. We all have the need to be seen and heard, to be accepted and loved. We all have the need for physical well-being, safety and security, as well as the need for autonomy, connection, play, peace, meaning, and self-expression. We may prefer strikingly different methods of meeting those needs. But the needs are what we have in common.

Compassion is rooted in seeing the humanity in others and in recognizing what needs they are trying to meet. We may disagree about the strategies, but the needs are what we have in common.

We need people in our lives who inspire us to connect on a deeper level. And sometimes we need to be that person who inspires others.

Which one will you be today?

The Daily Llama Fun Fact of the Day:

Today is National May Ray Day. Today we celebrate all the rays of sunshine in our lives. It’s that time of year when the remnants of spring bring the whispers of summer, and the sunshine is at its most inviting.

THURSDAY, MAY 20TH

THE DAILY LLAMA WORD OF THE DAY: RESCUE

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

MEDITATE ON THIS:

Healing is not always about revisiting the past, spending copious amounts of time in therapy, or having a cathartic cry. In fact, most of the healing process isn’t about staying in our pain at all. It’s about reconnecting to what is joyful in life.

Dogs can serve as wonderful guides on our spiritual journey in recovery. They teach us to be responsible and consistent in caring for them. They give us unconditional positive regard, and they show us how to live in the present moment.

The Daily Llama Fun Fact of the Day:

Today is National Rescue Dog Day

FRIDAY, MAY 21ST

THE DAILY LLAMA WORD OF THE DAY: NURSE

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

MEDITATE ON THIS:

We recover better in community. This concept can be tough to accept, especially when we have been hurt in the context of relationships with other people. We may have heard the saying, “Hurt people hurt people.”

But the opposite can be true, too. Healed people heal people.
