Sober Word Of The Day + Quote + Reflection From The Daily Llama For The Week of March 28th – April 1st, 2022

The Daily Llama, by Sober Curator Staci DesRault, brings you short, one-word meditations and a corresponding quote plus a reflection for your complete wool-being (#seewhatwedidthere?) for Monday, March 28th – Friday, April 1st, 2022.

WORD OF THE DAY:  DYNAMIC

MONDAY, MARCH 28, 2022

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“In the courageous standing of uncertainty, faith shows most visibly its dynamic character.” – Paul Tillich

MEDITATE ON THIS:

Doubt is not the opposite of faith. It is a necessary ingredient for faith. The opposite of faith is certainty. When we are certain, we leave no room for the unknown, no room for growth. When there is no room for growth, we become static and stale. To be dynamic, we must make friends with uncertainty.

The Daily Llama Fun Fact of the Day:

Today is National Black Forest Cake Day, National Something on a Stick Day, National Triglycerides Day, Respect Your Cat Day, Serfs’ Emancipation Day, and Lady Gaga’s Birthday.

WORD OF THE DAY: EFFICIENT

TUESDAY, MARCH 29, 2022

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“If you spend too much time thinking about a thing, you’ll never get it done.”  -Bruce Lee

MEDITATE ON THIS:

Some of us are so adept at procrastinating that we could put “Professional Procrastineer” on our resumés. It may be that waiting to the last minute is the only way we have motivated ourselves to take action in the past. We may not have stopped to consider the hidden costs of this habit:  increased anxiety, loss of sleep, missed opportunities. There can be many reasons why we may procrastinate, such as struggling with perfectionism, having poor boundaries, or being delayed by the unexpected. To be more efficient with our time and energy, it helps to clarify and prioritize our values. We cannot give everything 100% because then we would have nothing left for ourselves. Done half-assed is better than not done at all.

The Daily Llama Fun Fact of the Day:

Today is World Piano Day, Seward’s Day, National Vietnam War Veterans Day, National Smoke and Mirrors Day, National Mom and Pop Business Owners’ Day, Martyrs’ Day in Madagascar, and National Lemon Chiffon Cake Day.

WORD OF THE DAY: FORMIDABLE

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 30, 2022

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“The power of one, if fearless and focused, is formidable, but the power of many working together is better.” -Glorida Macapagal Arroyo

MEDITATE ON THIS:

We are not designed to be alone. Humans are hardwired for connection. Most of our emotional pain stems from disconnection. The antidote for disconnection is not more disconnection. To heal, we must learn how to connect with others in healthy ways.

The Daily Llama Fun Fact of the Day:

Today is Take a Walk in the Park Day, World Bipolar Day, Turkey Neck Soup Day, National Virtual Vacation Day, National Pencil Day, National I Am in Control Day, Little Red Wagon Day, Land Day, and Doctors’ Day.

WORD OF THE DAY: GRITTY

THURSDAY, MARCH 31, 2022

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“Being gritty doesn’t mean not showing pain or pretending everything is O.K. In fact, when you look at healthy and successful and giving people, they are extraordinarily meta-cognitive. They’re able to say things like, ‘Dude, I totally lost my temper this morning.’ That ability to reflect on yourself is signature to grit.” -Angela Duckworth

MEDITATE ON THIS:

Having grit is not about having talent or knowledge or skill. It’s about having the courage to show up for your life, day in and day out, no matter what the hell happens. Angela Duckworth writes:  “Instead, grit is about having what some researchers call an ”ultimate concern”–a goal you care about so much that it organizes and gives meaning to almost everything you do. And grit is holding steadfast to that goal. Even when you fall down. Even when you screw up. Even when progress toward that goal is halting or slow.”  So having a bad day? Just turn your shitty into gritty.

The Daily Llama Fun Fact of the Day:

Today is National Farm Workers Day, Transgender Day of Visibility, Transfer Day, National Tater Day, National Prom Day, Cesar Chaves Day, National Crayon Day, National Clams on the Half Shell Day, National Bunsen Burner Day, Manatee Appreciation Day, Eiffel Tower Day, and World Backup Day.

WORD OF THE DAY: RADICAL ACCEPTANCE

FRIDAY, APRIL 1, 2022

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“Radical acceptance rests on letting go of the illusion of control and a willingness to notice and accept things as they are right now, without judging.” – Marsha Linehan

MEDITATE ON THIS:

Radical acceptance requires us to stop fighting reality. It asks us to take a look at how things really are. It also asks us to disengage from our impulsive or destructive behaviors when things aren’t going our way. Radical acceptance means letting go of the bitterness and resentment that keep us stuck in a cycle of misery and discontent. To truly embrace reality, we must face the facts, even if they are undesirable or create discomfort. When we look squarely at the source of what causes us pain without judging or numbing ourselves, we build inner resilience and are better able to create a life worth living, even when pain may arise.

The Daily Llama Fun Fact of the Day:

Today is Edible Book Day, Walk to Work Day, Take Down Tobacco National Day of Action, National Sourdough Bread Day, National One Cent Day, International Fun at Work Day, Hospital Admitting Clerks Day, Fossil Fools’ Day, and of course, April Fool’s Day.
