Sober Word Of The Day + Quote + Reflection From The Daily Llama For The Week Of March 14th

The Daily Llama, by Sober Curator Staci DesRault, brings you short, one-word meditations and a corresponding quote plus a reflection for your complete wool-being (#seewhatwedidthere?) for Monday, March 14th – Friday, March 18th, 2022.

WORD OF THE DAY: EXHIBIT

MONDAY, MARCH 14, 2022

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“It’s very difficult to make a 100% turnaround. It’s tough when you actually do exhibit patterns of bad behavior. You need to have a very strong support system of people who are willing to keep you in your place if you’re going to overcome these things.” – Daniel Cormier

MEDITATE ON THIS:

Our habits and behaviors impact the quality of our lives. Even when we feel motivated, it can be incredibly difficult to change them. The most common mistake people can make is to try to change too many things at the same time. So we focus on keeping it simple. We start small. We practice patience. We lean on the support of our community. Eventually, our lives start to exhibit the benefits of real change.

The Daily Llama Fun Fact of the Day:

Today is National Pi Day, National Learn About Butterflies Day, National Write Your Story Day, National Napping Day, National Potato Chip Day, International Day of Mathematics, International Day of Action for Rivers, and Commonwealth Day (Canada).

WORD OF THE DAY: UNBREAKABLE

TUESDAY, MARCH 15, 2022

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“Blessed are the hearts that can bend; they shall never be broken.”  -Albert Camus

MEDITATE ON THIS:

It is rigidity in our beliefs, behaviors, and expectations that break us the most. When we become more open to the notion that we do not know it all, we become more flexible in responding to new situations with greater effectiveness. Rather than remain stuck in the mud puddle of “woulda, coulda, shoulda,” stay focused on walking in the road of today’s opportunities and possibilities. We’re better off moving forward because it is so much harder to hit a moving target.

The Daily Llama Fun Fact of the Day:

Beware the Ides of March. It is also National Shoe the World Day, World Speech Day, World Social Work Day, World Contact Day, World Consumer Rights Day, International Day Against Police Brutality, and National Pears Helene Day. It’s also Everything You Think is Wrong Day, Buzzards Day, and Dumbstruck Day.

WORD OF THE DAY: WORTHY

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 16, 2022

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“You’re imperfect, and you’re wired for struggle, but you are worthy of love and belonging.” – Brene Brown

MEDITATE ON THIS:

No matter what, you are worthy of love and belonging. No matter what. You are worthy. No matter what.

The Daily Llama Fun Fact of the Day:

Today begins Purim/Fast of Esther. It is also National Panda Day, No Selfies Day, National Vaccination Day, National Artichoke Day, Everything You Do is Right Day, and Freedom of Information Day.

WORD OF THE DAY: VERDANT

THURSDAY, MARCH 17, 2022

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“If you wish to make anything grow, you must understand it, and understand it in a very real sense. ‘Green fingers’ are a fact, and a mystery only to the unpracticed. But green fingers are the extensions of a verdant heart.” ― Russell Page, The Education of a Gardener

MEDITATE ON THIS:

Self-understanding is the prerequisite for growth. Today we take time to observe and honor our core needs. Having needs does not make us “needy.” Having needs makes us human. We work on our ability to disengage from relationships with people who scorn or ridicule us for seeking to have our core needs met. We nurture patience and understanding in our relationships with people who may understand our needs but are not able to meet them immediately. We cherish the relationships that meet our needs. We begin to grow when we accept that we are the only ones responsible for getting our core needs met.

The Daily Llama Fun Fact of the Day:

Today is St. Patrick’s Day and National Corned Beef and Cabbage Day. It’s also Holi, the Hindu festival of colors, as well as Evacuation Day in Massachusetts, National Close the Gap Day, and Absolutely Incredible Kid Day.

WORD OF THE DAY: TRANSPARENT

FRIDAY, MARCH 18, 2022

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“There is not a crime, there is not a dodge, there is not a trick, there is not a swindle, there is not a vice which does not live by secrecy.” – Joseph Pulitzer

MEDITATE ON THIS:

Transparency, authenticity, consistency, and kindness build trust. Repairing relationships becomes possible when we practice these principles. When you don’t know where to begin, start with being transparent. As the saying goes, we are only as sick as our secrets. The path to wellness begins with honesty.

The Daily Llama Fun Fact of the Day:

Today is Forgive Mom and Dad Day, National Lacy Oatmeal Cookie Day, National Supreme Sacrifice Day, National Sloppy Joe Day, National Biodiesel Day, Awkward Moments Day, and Global Recycling Day.
