The Daily Llama, by Sober Curator Staci DesRault, brings you short, one-word meditations and a corresponding quote plus a reflection for your complete wool-being (#seewhatwedidthere?) for Monday, March 21st – Friday, March 25th, 2022.

WORD OF THE DAY: UNYIELDING

MONDAY, MARCH 21, 2022

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“Self-pity is our worst enemy and if we yield to it, we can never do anything wise in this world.” – Helen Keller

MEDITATE ON THIS:

Our task is to move away from self-pity and toward a practice of self-compassion. Self-pity keeps us in a position of being a victim and focused on our pain. Self-compassion acknowledges the pain we are experiencing but pushes us forward to keep going out of acknowledgment that pain and suffering are universal experiences that shape us but do not define us. Today we are unyielding to self-pity, and we practice self-compassion.

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“True happiness comes from the joy of deeds well done, the zest of creating things new.” – Antoine de Saint-Exupery

MEDITATE ON THIS:

Spring is here to remind us that we can always start again. Spring declares that the cold, dark, wintery days of our soul will not be here forever. Behold, the sun will shine again.

WORD OF THE DAY:  ADEPT

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 22, 2022

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“Control and surrender have to be kept in balance. That’s what surfers do – take control of the situation, then be carried, then take control. In the last few thousand years, we’ve become incredibly adept technically. We’ve treasured the controlling part of ourselves and neglected the surrendering part.” -Brian Eno

MEDITATE ON THIS:

Today’s llama invites you to ponder the balance between control and surrender. The words “control” and “surrender” have a tendency to trigger strong emotions in some of us, perhaps because they are viewed to be synonymous with meaning “powerful” and “powerless,” respectively. But if we change our view of “control” to mean “to take action within the proper use of power” and our view of “surrender” to mean “to let go and trust I will be carried,” we may become more adept at living in balance. Gracious and good guiding force, grant me the peace to let go and trust that I will be carried through rough waters, the courage to take action where I can with proper use of my power, and the wisdom to see the boundaries between the two.
