Get To Know Recovery Beyond Virtual & In-Person Events

The mission of Recovery Beyond is to empower individuals to achieve long-term recovery through a supportive community that enables goal setting, lifelong learning, and healthy lifestyles. Their vision is that your recovery will feel supported for a lifetime.

Recovery Beyond was created in 2016 as a non-profit organization with the purpose of multiplying the impact discovered on Mt. Rainier called “Climbing Out of Homelessness”, a program that was formed back in 2011 by Mike Johnson and Mark Ursino. Recovery Beyond’s peer-driven model works in partnership with treatment programs and community partners to provide additional, critical success factors for long-term recovery:

  1. HEALTH – tools for learning to manage the symptoms of substance use disorder and making positive behavioral choices;

  2. PURPOSE – meaningful activities that allow exploration of interests and development of life goals; and

  3. COMMUNITY – a network of recovering individuals and their allies who offer support, encouragement, and hope.

Today, Recovery Beyond is taking what it learned on the mountain to the streets by targeting the greater recovery community and other community partners. By keeping their program low-cost, easy to access, and marked by healthy-restorative relationships and holistic wellness, they are committed to growth and celebration. They empower each other to live vibrant, meaningful lives. They provide a safe place where people work together to achieve their goals. Join them as a participant, peer lead, or donor. They are committed to healthy lifestyles for lasting recovery.

BE A PART OF THE ANNUAL EXPEDITION ALL-EXPENSES-PAID, WEEK-LONG EXPERIENCE

Immerse yourself in a life-changing sea kayaking experience with Recovery Beyond by exploring the 400 islands and outcrops of the beautiful San Juan Islands. You will be able to escape your daily routine, discover stunning wilderness areas, and spend quality time reflecting with others in recovery.

You don’t need to have previous sea kayaking experience, their partners from Outward Bound will teach you skills for wilderness travel—how to pack appropriately, paddle kayaks, set up tarps, cook, and navigate the sea. Their patrol will paddle through the inland waterways, moving their camp from island to island while navigating the changing currents of the Salish Sea. The expedition also cultivates skills around leadership, character development, service to others, and interpersonal development. Wilderness travel is challenging, but with appropriate pre-course preparation and using provided tools, individuals of various ages and body types can be successful.

If you are chosen for this exceptional trip, Recovery Beyond will help you become as physically prepared as possible so that you can take full advantage of the opportunity. Stay tuned for more details on how you can become one of the fortunate few who will take this journey together.
