Check-In With The Daily Llama, Bringing You The Word Of The Day For April 5th – April 9th, 2021, Short Meditations For Your Complete Wool-Being

The Daily Llama brings you short, one-word meditations and a corresponding quote for your complete wool-being (#seewhatwedidthere?) for Monday April 5th – 9th, 2021.

MONDAY, APRIL 5thTHE DAILY LLAMA WORD OF THE DAY: REFINE QUOTE OF THE DAY:

MEDITATE ON THIS:

Sometimes we spend too much time thinking about our past mistakes. Other times we don’t spend enough time thinking about them. It is tricky to get the right balance of looking at our past. If we don’t do it at all, we fail to learn. If we do it too much, we remain stuck.

Our past is our teacher. Once we have learned all that we need to learn from an experience, we need to practice letting it go. For while our past is a part of us, it is only a part of us.

We are who we choose to be today.

TUESDAY, APRIL 6thTHE DAILY LLAMA WORD OF THE DAY: DECLUTTER

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

MEDITATE ON THIS:

It is incredibly easy to let our homes, our hearts, and our minds get cluttered.  People and things regularly come into our lives, trying to stake a claim on our attention. If we become or remain passive around setting our boundaries, we will find chaos and disorder quickly take over our lives.

Just as it is important to the functioning of our homes to take out the garbage and tidy up our spaces regularly, so too is it important to declutter our hearts and minds on a routine basis.

We declutter our internal spaces by learning to say no and setting boundaries where we need to set them. We declutter our minds by letting go of resentments and forgiving, or speaking up and saying our truth. We declutter our hearts by removing ourselves from toxic people and toxic relationships.

Decluttering only helps us in the long run if we establish better habits around what and who we choose to bring into our lives after we’ve cleaned house. If we don’t establish better discernment in our decisions and behaviors, we will just end up back in the same place where we started.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 7thTHE DAILY LLAMA WORD OF THE DAY: SIFT QUOTE OF THE DAY:

MEDITATE ON THIS:

Sometimes we just have to learn to keep our mouths shut. We don’t have to say everything we think. A thought is just a thought, and thinking it doesn’t make it true.

Part of recovery is working to curb our impulsivity. We know someone is truly getting better in their recovery when they become both kinder and more careful with what they say. Wise people know that words hold a lot of power: the power to wound and the power to heal.

Wise people practice the skill of thinking before speaking.

The Daily Llama Fun Fact:

Today is National No Housework Day. You’re welcome.

THURSDAY, APRIL 8th

THE DAILY LLAMA WORD OF THE DAY: ORDER

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

MEDITATE ON THIS:

Many couples and families come into counseling with the agenda of changing their partner or loved one. Unless this mindset changes, the counseling will fail because the only person anyone ever has the power to change is one’s own self.

We have to take responsibility for our stuff and put it in order. It is nobody else’s job to do it for us. We are the ones who must set our hearts right.

The Daily Llama Fun Fact:

Today is National Empanada Day. Yummy.

FRIDAY, APRIL 9TH

THE DAILY LLAMA WORD OF THE DAY: CURATE

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

MEDITATE ON THIS:

There are infinite possibilities to create a great life. It can be tempting to compare what we have going on in our lives with what other people have going on in theirs. But most of the time, comparing our lives with others is not that helpful because we assume others are happier than they really are.

We only get the highlight reel of other people’s lives. We don’t have the privilege of carrying around their internal baggage. We have only our own to carry, and we may have convinced ourselves that the bags we carry are heavier than other people’s. We’d be foolish to believe us.

Almost everything in your life right now is there to some degree or another by your choices, either because you actively chose it to be there OR you are choosing not to do something about it OR you are choosing the way in which you are coping with it.

There’s a lot we don’t get to choose. We don’t choose our families. We didn’t choose our traumas. We didn’t choose to have this disease. But the degree to which it impacts us in the present moment is our choice.

We can choose to set boundaries. We can choose to go to therapy. We can choose to recover.

We don’t just have to keep accepting whatever comes into our life. We can learn to curate our own lives. We can learn to keep the good stuff and get rid of the stuff holding us back.
