Alcohol Took Everything From Me – A Poem by Sober Curator Danielle Tschernega

Alcohol took everything from meSaid it was my friend just wait and seeLet’s be exclusive, secretive, no one can knowYou’ll use me, I’ll love you, pick you up when you are low

Alcohol took everything from meMy friends, my family, my dignityI felt alone, isolated and betrayedShut in, depressed, lied to – but still you stayed

Alcohol took everything from meYou said I’d be happy but I was so sad you seeWho you really are is a thief so cruelLaughing at me cuz I was the foolThe fool for thinking your lies were trueBut the fool is me, you already knew

Alcohol took everything from meA hollow shell of myself I kept following your leadNow I have no one, you wanted it that wayYou do it so often, a MASTER at play

In the words of Madonna – Express yourself! This is the space for stories of sobriety journeys. After removing drugs and alcohol, many addicts discover new talents, abilities and forms of self-expression. Most have lived through unbelievable situations and are basically walking miracles. Sharing these talents and stories helps those who are still battling addiction. So, let’s Speak Out! And Speak Loud! Because when we recover out loud, we help keep others from dying in silence.

How are you expressing yourself in recovery? Do you have something you’d like to share in this space? Videos, poems, art, illustrations, essays, music – bring it, because we’re here for it and we really want to hear from you! Email us at [email protected] or DM us on social media.
