Remembering Grayson Murray + Memorial Day Reflections
PUBLISHER’S NOTE
This Monday hits different, The Sober Sip, is known to be a place where our readers can escape the heaviness of our newsfeeds. A place to enjoy funny gifs and to be with one another in community.
Sometimes, something stops you in your tracks that you need to make space for. Last night it was confirmed that two-time PGA Tour winner, Grayson Murray, took his life after a long mental health journey. We choose to remember Murray as the champion for recovery he was.
Murray was candid about his mental health journey and inspired others to speak up about theirs. His parents Eric and Terry Murray said in a statement released by the PGA Tour, “If that becomes his legacy, we could ask for nothing else.”
Today, we honor those who served our country like, our Contributor Phillip, who served in the Army, and those whose lives were lost in the line of duty as we observe Memorial Day. We thank you and honor for your service, and for the sacrifice you made for your Country.

Remembering Grayson Murray: A Reflection on Mental Health and Recovery
Grayson Murray was a two-time PGA Tour winner. He had just gotten his card back shortly after he became sober, on May 1st, 2023. Murray had depression, anxiety, and alcoholism.
When you die at 30, it is usually not natural—something happened. And unfortunately, on Sunday morning, as I am writing this, it was confirmed that he had committed suicide. The thing about alcoholism or mental illness is that those of us who suffer from it are, at literally anytime, one drink, one moment, from dying, from ending it all.
Call 988 to reach the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. It provides free and confidential support 24 hours a day, seven days a week for people in suicidal crisis or distress. You can learn more about its services here, including its guide on what to do if you see suicidal language on social media. You can also call that number to talk to someone about how you can help a person in crisis. For crisis support in Spanish, call 1-888-628-9454.
For support outside of the US, a worldwide directory of resources and international hotlines is provided by the International Association for Suicide Prevention. You can also turn to Befrienders Worldwide.

Alcohol & Substance Use Disorder Resource Guide
At The Sober Curator, we provide high-quality content centered around the vibrant and fulfilling lifestyle of sobriety. While our focus is on the positive aspects of sober living, we also acknowledge that life can present challenges without the aid of alcohol or substances. Coping with these challenges alone can be daunting, which is why we strongly believe in finding recovery within a supportive community.
If you or someone you know is struggling with alcohol use disorder, substance use disorder, or mental illness, we urge you to seek help. While the task may seem daunting, it’s important to remember that support is readily available and that there are people out there who genuinely want to help.
