Pride Month is Ending, The Bear Season 3, + We Sat Down with Twin Cities' Dustin Lee

PUBLISHER’S NOTE
It’s Monday. As Pride month nears its end and we inevitably watch the rainbow washed logos return to their greyscale, I am filled with melancholy. We live in a country where, in the words of Rep. David Cicilline, “in most states an LGBTQ+ person can get married on a Saturday, post photos of their wedding on Sunday, and can get fired from their job or thrown out of their apartment on Monday just because of who they are.”

As a bisexual woman, I am so fortunate to work for a company that accepts me for who I am fully. Many members of our community cannot say the same thing. Members of the LGBTQ+ are three times more likely to misuse alcohol compared to heterosexual men and women. For this reason, we are compiling a list of LGBTQ+ resources for those seeking recovery. When we recover together, we are infinitely strong.

I look forward to unveiling this new resource to you all very soon as a reminder that our advocacy at The Sober Curator doesn’t end when we enter a new month, we walk our talk.

RuPaul, Emmy-Winning Host, Performer, and Drag Icon Has Been in Recovery From Alcohol and Drugs For Over 20+ years

RuPaul has transformed drag into a mainstream phenomenon with devoted fans across the world. The Emmy-winning host, performer, and drag icon is over 20+ sober. “There had been clues. There are always clues. I had been stoned every day I could since I was 10 years old. As I’d become famous, there was always a bottle of champagne backstage, and then as my workload increased, I had been smoking more and more weed, until I was smoking first thing in the morning,” remarked Ru Paul as he reflected back on his journey to recovery.

Ru Paul sought out recovery in the early 2000s and worked the steps, “Because the more I spent time with friends and in meetings and out in the world, the more I was learning that I wasn’t so different after all. What I had learned in my time away was that I couldn’t be motivated by fear of not being enough. I had to be motivated by joy. By colors, music, laughter, dancing, and creativity—all the things that made life worth living.”

COMING OUT SOBER
I Hope

My name is Mark. I’m gay. I’m a Christian. And I love Jesus Christ and believe Jesus loves me. I knew this statement would be too controversial for the nondenominational Christian church I attended for 6 years. My life, in short, has been a complex journey, navigating the intersections of grief, faith, and sexual identity.
