Jane Lynch Celebrates 2 Years of Sobriety After Coming Back from a Relapse!
Jane Lynch has experienced a tumultuous journey with alcohol misuse, starting from her teenage years and intensifying into her 30s despite her high-functioning status as an actress. “I felt sorry for people who weren’t alcoholics: I just loved AA,” she recalled. “It was very much a gift; it was almost like I was struck sober.”
Her struggles were rooted in deep-seated shame about her sexuality, which she tried to suppress through acting but found temporary solace in alcohol. However, Lynch's sobriety was challenged five years ago when she relapsed due to boredom and a misguided belief that she could handle alcohol as a hobby. This second round lasted about three years, during which she deceived herself about her drinking habits. Eventually, a wake-up call prompted her to stop once again, acknowledging the destructive nature of her behavior and embracing sobriety with renewed determination.
Throughout her journey, Lynch has confronted the complexities of addiction, from initial relief and joy in drinking to the painful realization of its emptiness and the challenging path to recovery. Her story underscores the ongoing struggle with addiction and the resilience required to overcome its grip, even after periods of successful sobriety.

“I am Sober. Why Don’t I Feel Better?!!”
I could talk for hours about this, I thought to myself. I am surprised more people in recovery or seeking sobriety don’t seem to have a lot of knowledge about what to expect throughout the phases of their recovery. But then again, until I was going through it, I didn’t care much to know either.
