PUBLISHER’S NOTE
It’s Monday, and I am in a cold sweat because I have yet to do ANY holiday shopping (oopsies). But thankfully, I reviewed some of our holiday gift guides over at TheSoberCurator.com and have a better idea of what to get the sober guys and gals in my life.

Wishing you all a peaceful, relaxing, and loving holiday season. From my home to yours, Happy Holidays y’all!

Celebrate the Holidays Sober With This Holiday Punch NA Cocktail Recipe

My husband put together the menu and did all the cooking for our Thanksgiving dinner this year. I’m usually in charge of the cocktails, but he found this recipe for a punch, a riff on the Moscow mule. The ingredients sounded wonderful and would allow us to create something non-alcoholic that our guests could ‘fuel’ if desired. However, no one felt the need to add anything to this, and our family loved this punch! Jesse Szewczyk created this in Bon Appetit magazine, and I’m passing it on to you for your upcoming holiday gathering.

Oreos Anonymous: Confessions of a Midnight Snack Addict

I’ve done hard things in my life. Getting sober was one of them. I had to hit AA meetings every day. It required diving into the 12 steps. I had to face the absolute cesspool of emotions I had drowned in alcohol for years. It was the hardest, most transformative thing I’ve ever done. And yet…I keep eating sleeves of Mega-Stuff Oreos at midnight. It’s like I’m training to go head-to-head with Joey Chestnut.

Hibernation as Healing: Honoring the Winter Solstice

The Winter Solstice whispers a truth the world too often drowns out: we are meant to rest. It is the longest night, the stillest of moments when the earth exhales and urges us to do the same. Within the Celtic calendar, this day marks the return of light, but the light comes slowly, tenderly, without rush. In the depths of dormancy, we are invited into an ancient rhythm that is out of sync with modernity’s demands. Recovery, too, asks us to reclaim this rhythm—to unlearn the striving, the pushing, the endless pursuit of doing, and instead embrace the radical act of being.

Margaret Cho is 8 1/2 Years Sober!

asian american history month GIF

Margaret Cho, the celebrated comedian and actress, has found a new rhythm in life through sobriety, marking eight and a half years of being alcohol- and drug-free. Reflecting on her journey, Cho describes sobriety as transformative, bringing her an unexpected sense of joy and clarity. Initially unaware of the severity of her addiction, it was the love and concern of those around her that guided her to confront her struggles. Since then, sobriety has become her greatest celebration. “I thought the party would be over, but actually, when you put all that stuff down, the party begins,” she said, emphasizing that true enjoyment and fulfillment come with living sober.

Sobriety has not only improved Cho’s mental health but also shifted her self-perception. She now embraces her identity as a genuinely happy person, a stark contrast to the troubled, depressed image she once held of herself. Encouraging others to explore life without substances, she highlights the liberation and peace sobriety has brought her. For Cho, the best way to party—and to live—is to do it sober, celebrating every moment with a clear mind and an open heart.
